Biography

I started doing everything in theater: playing leads, building sets, and focusing lights. And while adding to my roster of interests, I rarely stopped doing anything. Primarily a director, I still design lighting and occasionally sets, choreograph, and produce. I am Member at Large at Gallery Players and former President of the Board at Heights Players (where audiences and artist participation exploded during my tenure). I danced professionally with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company and the Nancy Hauser Dance Company, among others. I have choreographed over 40 works, several of them evening length, and shown them at Carnegie Hall, HERE Arts Center, The Connelly Center, Fringe NYC, 3LD, F. M. Kirby Shakespeare Theater, Dixon Place, Hamilton College, and White Wave. My narrative driven work (no text, ever) has been a great source of pride, taught me how to direct, and helped me prove to myself that I was actually an artist. The Snow Queen, Soul Descending, and 3 am, 89°, no wind may not have been seen by many folks, given the realities of dance, but they live on in everything I do.

I started directing in 2009, often melding dance into the work. I earned an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College in 2016 and my work has been shown at Theater Row, HERE Arts Center, Dixon Place, Brooklyn College, Brighton Fringe, The Gallery Players, and The Heights Players. I have been honored to direct all three plays of the Oresteia, Arcadia, Medea, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Xanadu, and a puppet driven production of A Christmas Carol. And of course, many other shows. I truly believe that problems are opportunities to create theater a new way (even if I am unamused when a problem arises.)

I am fortunate enough to be able to direct multiple shows a year, design multiple times a year, mentor young directors and lighting designers, and help support theater makers of all experience levels partake of the magic of theater. Theater helps us learn who we are and helps us manage this challenging life.  I cannot think of a better place to be.
